"The Story Behind Mikufu"

Hi, I’m Nadin Fayed, a graduate of the Faculty of Fine Arts in California, USA, an interior designer, and a caricature artist at an Egyptian newspaper.
Since childhood, I’ve been passionate about painting and visual arts. I used to express my emotions through oil colors, but my love for art inspired me to search for a new and distinctive way to express beauty.
That’s when my idea of painting with threads instead of brushes was born. Although this technique is challenging and requires great patience sometimes taking months to complete a single piece the result is always worth it. Each artwork carries a human touch and a deep emotional connection. I’ve participated in several art exhibitions where my thread paintings captured admiration for their unique concept and emotional depth. Alongside my artwork, I became fascinated by African beaded accessories, drawn to their vibrant colors and soulful energy. Since they were not very common in Egypt, I decided to learn how to make them myself. I began creating unique designs that my friends loved and encouraged me to share and that’s how my artistic journey grew beyond the canvas. From that passion, Mikufu was born.
“Mikufu” is a Swahili word that means “necklaces” I chose it because it beautifully reflects my deep admiration for African handmade art a world full of color, soul, and tradition. Through every piece I create.
I hope to share a part of my journey and my love for handmade art.Thank you for being part of my world.
